Welcome to my blog everyone!
I hope over the next 3 months you enjoying reading about everything going on with Display and I in Florida!
Just so you get a sense of what goes on in our day to day Florida life I'll explain the program a little bit.
The program is headed by Lendon Gray (2 Time olympian and Hall of Famer) and we are stabled at the BEAUTIFUL Hampton Green Farm Owned by Kim Boyer.
The program is 3 months long and our day to day schedule is filled with chores, exercise routines, riding lessons and watching others ride, lectures and sometimes trips to other farms to see how their facility's are set up and their training styles. In fact, this week we are able to watch and join the lectures of the Robert Dover Horse Mastership clinic taking place at the Global Showgrounds.
My blog will be filled with excerpts from each day we are in the sunny South, even though I might not post every day I will catch up (I promise!) with multiple days on one post.
On Monday December 30th, Display and I left Maine for Florida. He, with Micheal Bateman of Bateman Horse Vans (who I HIGHLY recommend!) and myself in my tiny car packed full of everything possibly needed for a 1,600 mile move. I arrived late on the 1st and Display early on the 2nd.
The Winter Intensive Training program didn't officially start in till the 3rd but we were luck enough to be able to watch some of the horse mastership clinic's lessons and sit in on lectures.
Yesterday the morning lecture was with Robert Dover on the art of dressage. It was fabulous and he really broke down the half halt and its importance. Your only a half halt away from perfect balance and attention!!
Day 1 Friday January 3rd, 2014
Today we started out the day with a with a fitness test. After warming up and stretching we ran a timed mile, did push ups, sit ups and planked, we will be tracking our improvement over the next 3 months.
After that, lessons began. I opted to not have a lesson because Display arrived the morning before and was still quite tired. So I spent the day clipping him and organizing.
In the afternoon we got to go to the gorgeous Stillpoint farm for a lecture with Dr. Jenny Susser on Sports psychology. She spoke mostly about mental fitness and asked about our mental weaknesses. She challenged us to get into a ritual to recognize and strengthen our weak areas to better our focus and ability in and out of the show ring. Practice makes it permanent!
Happy New Year everyone!
Stay tuned for more updates.
